Willie “C” Lyles Jr.
Hello everyone, my name is Willie C. Lyles Jr. I am the co-owner of Thuro Magazine and I’m a storyteller. Today I’m going to tell you the story of how WE came to be.
Every since I was a kid I always had love for two things: Hip-Hop, and comic books. I didn’t know how to break into either one but I knew that’s what I wanted to do in life. Despite my lack of knowledge, my determination became my fuel and I carried on. I graduated from college at Indiana State University with a Bachelors degree in Journalism, but I couldn’t find a job within my field.
My childhood friend, Jay Addison (co-owner of Thuro) came to me with an idea. Since no one would hire me to work for their company, why not create OUR own?
That’s exactly what we did! Thuro Magazine was born. Our motto was to be “the voice of underground Hip-Hop.” In our early run we interviewed some heavyweights: 8Ball & MJG, Rick Ross, Redman, Cappadonna (Wu-Tang), Rapsody, Add-2 and a host of others. Unfortunately, LIFE took hold and we had to pause things.
My second love took over. I began to work on storyline for characters that I created. One in particular, Wordsmith, a fallen angel who uses lyrics to defeat his enemies. Our rough patch passed and once again we began to work on bringing Thuro back to the world, but this time comic books would be included.
Thuro will combine underground Hip-Hop with comic books. Within our stories our audience will be introduced to the music of upcoming artists and established ones that the Hip-Hop community should be paying attention to. We’re like an online Hip-Hop musical. You can come to us to hear good music and read good stories. I hope you find us entertaining.
Without further delay…. Welcome to our dream!
